Direct Democracy, is the way to go the founding fathers were not to keen on this idea because it would give the majority the power over the minority, I.E. the moneys few.
The people decide what government they will have and who has the power but often is the case they do not.

Although Thomas Jefferson was certainly not perfect and highly idiosyncratic, he did say some very interesting things involving a great deal of insight. The following quote in particular is quite something:
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs. Thomas Jefferson
